Kids Birthday Cakes Shiraz — 20 Ideas for 2026

Back to the journal

A child's birthday is not a calendar number. It is a memory that will open years later on a grainy phone photo on your grandchild's screen. In that moment the cake has to do what only a cake can do: the smile that lands on a child's face when they see their favourite character in front of them.

Over the past four years at Homeyda, I have made hundreds of kids' birthday cakes. This note is the twenty themes that get ordered most, with a guide to choosing by age, and a few questions parents usually ask before they order.

How to choose the theme?

A simple rule: ask the child themselves, not Pinterest. Even if your child is three, you can point at the books, toys or cartoons they love and choose from there. A cake that comes from real interest shows in the photos too.

Tendencies shift with age. Up to three, soft animals work (duck, bear, cat). From three to six, cartoon characters (SpongeBob, unicorn, book characters). From six to ten, more elaborate themes (Minecraft, space, dinosaur). From ten up, personal passions — music, sport, books.

1. Minecraft — for the gamer kids

Pixels, green and brown blocks, a small fondant character. Minecraft is a theme that works almost universally from five up. At Homeyda we build the Minecraft cake with firm fondant — because the sharp pixel edges only come out crisp in fondant.

2. SpongeBob and Patrick — the timeless classic

Two characters that have been seen across three generations in Iran. The SpongeBob cake in yellow with the round eyes, on a blue water base. Pink Patrick on his own on a simple cake has also become very popular in recent years.

3. Pastel unicorn — queen of girls' themes

Pastel pinks and blues and gold, gold horn, wavy mane. Unicorn is the theme that lands in 90 percent of girls' parties between four and eight. At Homeyda we set a hand-sculpted fondant unicorn on a pastel buttercream base — the feeling of a dream, not a brand mascot.

4. Teddy bear — for the gentlest kids

The autumn teddy bear with a brown body and a tiny scarf on the neck is one of Homeyda's most ordered themes. Suited to autumn and winter birthdays. Made for kids who still sleep with their teddy.

5. Little duck — for under three

A simple yellow duck on a white cake with tiny flowers. This theme works for first through third birthdays. Very simple, very sweet, always photographs warm.

6. Farm scene — for nature-loving kids

A small fondant boy or girl, with a cow or a tiny sheep, on a green cake with little flowers. This theme is labour-intensive and needs three days' notice.

7 to 12 — other best-sellers

Strawberry candlelight: a clear red cake with fresh strawberries, one candle on each berry. Suited to small parties. Rainbow comic book: a slice of cake with layered colours, the surface lettered POW and BOOM in comic style. For superhero fans. Minimal daisy: a simple orange cake with one daisy stem. For teens who want something softer, not cartoon.

Mini bento: for intimate parties — two people or one family. A bento cake with a short message on top, in a small box. Rocket and space: a dark base with gold stars, a fondant rocket on top. Suited to six to ten. Ocean and mermaid: pastel blue base with crystalline bubbles, shells and a small mermaid. Suited to girls five to nine.

13 to 20 — for kids with specific tastes

Dinosaur: a dark green cake with a fondant dinosaur and a few oversized leaves. Football and sport: a base shaped like a football pitch, a tiny ball and the favourite team's flag. Princess castle: a small tiered cake with fondant towers. Race car: a base with racing lines, a flat fondant car on top. Forest animals: a few fondant animals — fox, rabbit, bear — on a green base. Music and piano: fondant piano keys on the base, with musical notes. Books and library: a few tiny fondant books stacked, on a cream base. Galaxy and stars: a dark purple base with silver dust and gold stars.

"The most important thing in a kid's birthday cake is matching the real interest of the child. An expensive but unrelated cake gets a polite smile. A simple farm-boy cake for a child who loves cows gets a shriek of joy."

Know these before you order

Guest count (to size the cake), birthday date, the child's favourite theme, party colours (if you have a specific scheme), dietary restrictions, and a photo or description of what you have in mind. Even one Pinterest photo is enough — we start from there.

Orders accepted at least a week ahead. For complex themes (unicorn, Minecraft, fondant scenes), two weeks is ideal. On the birthday itself, home delivery in Shiraz is free.
